SVSS is an AMA Chartered Club (2752) whose purpose is to promote the safe and skillful flying of radio controlled gliders and electric powered planes and to encourage fellowship, friendship and the exchange of information among R/C enthusiasts.  Our club was founded in 1989 and has more than 100 members of all ages, abilities and from all walks of life with a common interest, building and flying radio controlled gliders and electric powered planes.  Membership is open to the general public.  SVSS general membership meetings are held at the SVSS field.  They follow the nine monthly club contest on alternate months beginning in March.  If the club contest is postponed, so is the meeting.  Our meetings are open to the public and visitors are always welcome and encouraged to attend. 

SVSS offers many methods and opportunities to learn and hone your flying skills.  A monthly Thermal Duration glider contest is held at the club field at 10:00 AM on the second Saturday of the month from March through November.  On the fourth Saturday of those same months, a contest is held for Altitude Limited Electric Sailplanes (ALES).  Training for new pilots is available from our flight instructors.  Beginners and spectators are always welcome.  

The County Park is open every day from sunup to sundown.  Most of our flying activity is on Fridays and Saturdays, weather permitting. The weather station at Finch Farms has proven to be a fairly reliable indicator of the conditions at our field.  SVSS has a total of eight, 750 foot winch lanes.  Four to the North and four to the South that are used depending on wind direction.  Due to Yolo County restrictions, modeling is restricted to sailplanes and electrics. The SVSS flying field is located at the Yolo County Grasslands Regional Park, which is 3.8 miles south of I-80 on Mace Blvd in Davis.
